Questions to Help You DREAM BIG
I remember hearing somewhere “don’t wish for something, want it, because if you want something, it means you can go out and get it.”
Last month I wrote about your critter brain and change. Your brain can literally hold you back from changing because if you already feel safe and comfortable, why change? But I believe we only get this one life and I’d like to make the best of it. I want to reach the end and be able to look back with great stories and amazing memories. The last thing I want is to be stuck with “what ifs” and regrets over all the things I never did.
Coming home from traveling was hard. It was like going from something new everyday, back to everything I was used to…but then I realized it was only that way if that’s how I chose to see it. Just because my surroundings were similar didn’t mean I had to DO all the same things. This month I decided to challenge myself to step outside of my comfort zone, do all those things my gut was telling me I should do but my brain kept telling me “naaah that sounds too hard or too scary.” Last week I did my first Facebook Live and taught my first yoga class. The entire week leading up to it I was an anxious mess, assuming all the “worst” things that could happen. Looking back, it all seemed so simple, there were a few hiccups but it came and went just as everything does. No mater what it is we have to do (especially if it’s something new) we may not be able to stop from feeling nervous or worrying about the outcomes, but the most important thing is to do it anyway. That is where are all the learning and growth happens.
Recently I saw a short video clip with Mel Robbins where I learned an exercise that I now love to do. Imagine yourself a year, two years from now. Where do you want to be? What do you want to look like? Who do you want to be?
Now back it up to where you are now, what is it that you need to being doing to get there? Are you doing those things?
If you see yourself being fit and in shape but refuse to go to the gym and eat healthy you either have to come to terms with the fact that either you don’t really want it, or it’s time to make a change.
I’ll leave you with four questions to think about:
What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?
What is the best/worst thing that could happen?
Could it be worth it even if you failed?
How do you know if you don’t give it a try?
Don’t be afraid to dream big, we only get this one life, what do you want to do with it?
