The Brutal Truth About Self care.

I’m sure you’ve been told a million times how important self care is, but knowing it and actually doing it are two completely different things.

Self care can be anything that takes care of your mental, emotional and physical health. Making sure you’re getting enough sleep, eating healthy, exercising, spending time relaxing and/or doing enjoyable things are all important to your wellbeing and overall happiness.

You also can’t fully show up for others unless you show up for yourself. Have you ever noticed the more stressed out you get the less focused you are with your friends and family? Maybe you feel like like the time you spend isn’t as high of quality, you’re easily frustrated or distracted? It’s important to take care of ourselves first and foremost so that we can show up for others as our best self!

You may think, I can worry about myself later, I have too much to do today (trust me, I’ve been there) but if you continually put it off…

“Those who think they have not time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness.”

– Edward Stanley

My tip? Start simple and schedule it! Walking into the house after a long day of work and flopping down onto the couch and turning on the TV doesn’t count as self care. I’ve never come out of a full season TV show binge and thought “wow, my body feels great!” Be intentional and think about what would truly nourish you. If you’re crazy busy, schedule just 5 minutes for you to sit and breathe with a nice cup of tea. Maybe take some time to read, a few moments to meditate, go for a quick run/walk, take a bath, get a massage, try yoga! (Click Here to do a 30 minute stretch routine I just created!). Start to put together a list of things to take care of yourself and each day, try and do something for YOU. Your body and mind will thank you.

What does self care look like to you?
