Are You Feeling Stuck?
It's the first day of Autumn! We tend to associate new seasons with change, especially Fall. It’s a time when the plants are shifting from green to red, yellow, orange and brown. Trees are shedding their leaves while we’re adding layers (hello jackets and boots season). Even the weather is shifting; the air is getting more crisp and cold (all depending on where you live of course)...and everything pumpkin spice flavor is back. It’s the perfect time to take a quick evaluation of your life. Instead of waiting for New Years to roll around to start making resolutions, what if you started setting new goals and creating new habits NOW? Earlier this year I wrote about change and why it can be so hard so…
What if you’re feeling stuck?
Your brain and body are connected, constantly communicating back and forth. For example, if you’re hungry, your stomach starts grumbling and tells your brain it’s time to eat. When you’re tired, your eyes get heavy and you start yawning and you know you need sleep. When you’re dehydrated you get thirsty, you feel lonely when you need connection, you cry when you’re upset, etc. Actions and reactions are all results of these signals between your mind and body. In this way we can look at being stuck as a signal. Mel Robbins offers an awesome reframe, what if being STUCK just means that you need GROWTH?
The first thing to do is not overthink being “stuck.” You know when you’re having a bad day and the more you think about it, the more upset you get and the MORE things seem to go wrong? The more you focus on being stuck, the more stuck you feel. “Energy flows where attention goes.” Instead of looking at why you may be trapped, think of ways to release yourself. Ask yourself, “what can I do to grow?” It could be in any area of your life; relationships, career, health, spiritually, etc. This could be as simple as doing something different (check out some ideas here), switching up your routine, or learning new things every day (sign up for a class, read a new book, or listen to a podcast). It’s all about finding ways that you can grow and expand.
Going into this new season, think about what you may be curious about and use it as and opportunity to get unstuck. Be deliberate in your pursuit of life and fiercely BE.
