Staying Entertained and Inspired: 33 Ideas of What to Do Indoors

Happy Monday my friends! Such strange times for all of us. Many of us have settled into quarantine life with no idea how long it will last and it’s easy to get caught up in all the news and media and drive yourself into a panic but unfortunately being scared and stressed doesn’t solve anything (if it did I’d be a millionaire and have fixed all of life’s problems!), so what can you do to worry a little less? My last blog post has a bunch of tips for how to feel more IN control but sometimes there are simply things that are OUT of your control. Lately, the topic of social isolation and quarantine has been a sore subject on social media with lots of arguing on why/why not we should be isolated, who is being stupid by not following a strict enough quarantine, and how bad of a situation it truly is. Rather than arguing who is right or wrong, I want to offer a paradigm shift; instead of worrying about everything that is out of our control, why not look for the positives? I for one am excited to hear news of reduced emissions and animals thriving, I’m happy to get to spend quality time with my family, and to have the freedom to work on all my personal projects. So what is the silver lining for you?

If you’re still like “Sure that’s great and all but I’m freakin’ bored and starting to go a little crazy trapped indoors,” here are 33 ideas of things to do!

My personal go to’s:

  1. Work on my business.

  2. Take online classes. Try signing up for a new course, I’m working through a Corrective Exercise course and I just signed up for a free Yale course called “The Science of Well-Being.”

  3. Exercise! I like to go for runs/walks, HITT, and yoga.

  4. Binge Netflix (of course).

  5. Play video games (lately it’s been a lot of League of Legends).

  6. Take baths (I get this one is selective, you’re either a bath person or you’re not) - Bonus points for bubbles or bath bombs!

I also asked others what their favorite things to do and here’s what they said,

  7. Follow along with a Bob Ross episode and paint.

  8. Read!

  9. Play board games.

  10. Do a puzzle.

  11. Get rid of old clothes.

  12. Go through all your things and see if they “spark joy” (Marie Kondo style!) and donate everything else!

  13. My pregnant sister suggested “getting fat,” which is definitely one solid option.

  14. Playing in the yard.

  15. Watching movies.

  16. Xbox/Playstation, playing games online with friends.

  17. Minecraft.

  18. Naked yoga (I suppose that’s the benefit of an at-home practice!?).

    More ideas!

  19. Learn a new language (I downloaded Duolingo to start learning Japanese!).

  20. Meditate and other inner work.

  21. Listen to podcasts (my favorite is Marie Forleo’s).

  22. Self-care routine. Break out the dry brush, face masks, and coconut oil and go to town.

  23. Crafts! Make a vision board, paint, draw, learn origami, candle-making, paper-mâché, friendship bracelets, use Pinterest for more ideas.

  24. Indoor gardening? (I just repotted some plants!)

  25. Play music! Either listen to it or dust off the old instruments around the house and give it a go.

  26. Write! Journal, blog, write letters, short stories, poems, etc.

  27. Create your own “The Great British Baking Show” scenario! Learn to cook something new.

  28. Use online video chat to catch up with old friends.

  29. Sort through old photos, maybe make a photo book?

  30. Wine/beer tasting.

  31. Rearrange your furniture/reorganize your space.

  32. Stovetop S’mores.

  33. Build a blanket fort (might as well make that work from home space nice and cozy!).

Whether you are out in the world or at home, there are always ways to enjoy the moment, it is all about your mindset. Personally I’m going to choose to have fun and enjoy my time, rather than feeling bored, “stuck,” or afraid. I hope you stay safe and never stop being creative and inspired!
